I'm just experimenting. I hate the word "blog" and am fascinated with how the net seems to nurture *everyone's* vanity.

I appreciate the value of a refit as part of getting ready for release, but the change to a black background for the forums is awful, at least for readability.

The new home page looks sharper and the black is OK there because it isn't a big reading thing. But please, please, please tweak this tweak so we don't have to read white on black forum threads for the game's life cycle.

This is pretty bad. I'm finding it hard to focus, I've gotten a headache after reading a few threads, and the whole thing reminds me of some angsty tween's geocities or LJ account. I avoid the sins forums because of this crap

Also why cant we access all of elemental's sub forums through the Impulse client?

Agreed. I thought yesterday with the brighter text it'd help, but today I'm getting a headache trying to read it.

If we can't change it back to the old style by default, can you at least create an alternate CSS file so that the people who find this physically painful can swap to something better? That's a pretty easy thing to do.

(I tried disabling styles entirely, and although that makes the page a nice black on white, it also seems to mess with the reply box. I guess I could just turn it back on to reply.)

The best fix is to take the yellowish color that's used on the Karma number, User name, Forum categories, etc and use that for post text, and use a very very light gray for the stuff yellow is used for now. The yellow is much easier to read posts with.

Cya then....
Since the whole point of a game website is to encourage people to come read and post, this is entirely the wrong attitude.

Surely the point is to encourage the RIGHT type of people...

And that would be you with that attitude? You'r not helping anything or anyone by that.

Anyways - aye, just a style change option please. Not so hard to do, must forums have them these days.

By the gods, all this black is making me depressed!

It also looks awesome!

I'm not sure why, though, but it feels blurred somehow and I'm getting a slight headache after less than 5 minutes. Could be psychosomatic, though. Or possibly the grey-on-black text. Perhaps whiten it a bit?

Edit: Oh godammit, I just realized that all my bordered avatars are ruined. Goddamn.

So you're saying that long time contributors like GW and Luckmann who are getting headaches from the color scheme are the "wrong" kind of people?

Really, if a website design is causing physical discomfort for users, that's a clear indication something is wrong with the design.

For those who don't like the new design, while not the same thing, you can view the page with StarDock's default theme here:

https://forums.stardock.com/forum/511

I think that might be a better compromise for me than some browser add-on, but at the moment it seems to only work for Elemental General and Dev Journals. I can't get threads from the Beta, Mods, or Ideas areas to load in that view.

Man, you guys are killing me. Who gives a shit about the color when most of us (using IE 7 & 8 ) CAN'T MAKE NEW POSTS. The colors are IRRELEVANT when posting functionality is Screwed!!!

From what I've seen the colors all come down to our Personal Tastes, our individual Opinions. I could say that I think only the old people with bad eyes are whining about the color change. Or I could say only nerds don't like Black Backgrounds with Red text....but I'm not going to say that and that's Not how I feel on the matter. It's also Not Cool to down people or call them names (even indirectly) because they may or may not like the new colors. I think we're all mature enough (or should be anyway) not to down on each other because some of us like the new colors and some don't. The Colors, no matter what they are, are IRRELEVANT When We Can't Post Or Navigate The Forums.

As for Personal Preference, the combination of Black and Red have ALWAYS been my two favorite colors and they Always Will Be no matter how old I get or bad my eyes get. When it really comes down to it though, white text on a black background is much easier to see and read for me. White background with Black Text is ok too. Bottom line is though I think we can refrain from flaming each other based on our own personal color tastes, wouldn't you all agree?

Let's Concentrate on WHAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT HERE... FIX THAT DAMN LOGO SO WE HAVE FUNCTIONALITY BACK WITH INTERNET EXPLORER. Microsoft's Internet Explorer is the MOST COMMON WEB BROWSER, Period. Stardock customers should NOT Be Forced to install another web browser just so we can get forum functionality back.

So don't be an ass and go make a new thread. This is a thread about the color scheme, it says so in the topic. If you have a problem with posting, go make a new thread and stop trolling this one.

Since we're in a thread dedicated specifically to the color scheme, the color scheme is in fact highly relevant. Anything else is off topic... like your posts.

Hell, the color scheme problem isn't easily fixed. Your problem is: upgrade to a modern, non-obsolete PoS browser. Problem solved.

I don't like the change.  I agree that it is very hard to read, fuzzy and dull.  The large Elemental logo covers up the menus at the top, so there is no way to access the 'options' to make any changes to the way I see it.  No way to navigate anywhere but the recent posts.

If you're using Firefox, click on View > Page Style. You can disable the styles from there, which change the site back to a super basic black on white. The layout gets blown away and the post box is screwed up, but for the purpose of reading it works.

IIRC Opera has similar functionality. Not sure about Chrome or Safari.

I can't change the browser on my work computer.
